Money came back with a guarantee. Floyd Mayweather Jr. told the world that he was still the best boxer despite taking 21 months off, and he backed up every boast with every jab in an impressive victory. Although next time out, hopefully he’ll pick on somebody his own size.
Mayweather overpowered the smaller, lighter Juan Manuel Marquez for a unanimous decision Saturday night, maintaining his perfect record in his comeback from retirement.
Mayweather knocked down Marquez in the second round and then peppered him with countless damaging shots to remain unbeaten (40-0, 25 KOs). Still, his impressive effort couldn’t be viewed without weighing the obvious disadvantages in height and strength faced by the talented Marquez, a 130-pounder just 18 months ago who moved up two weight classes for this once-in-a-career payday at the MGM Grand Garden.

World number one and defending champion Roger Federer advanced to the US Open Finals for the sixth consecutive time after beating Serbia's Novak Djokovic (7-6, 7-5, 7-5) in straight sets. Federer, who also won this year's French Open and Wimbledon, eyes to win his sixth straight US Open title and his third Grand Slam of the year.
Many people expected to see another Federer-Nadal clash in the Finals, but Juan Martin del Potro had something else in mind, and made sure that classic matchup wasn't going to happen. The 20-year-old Argentine totally dominated Nadal. His 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 rout over the Spaniard made him advance to his first ever Grand Slam Finals, where he will be challenging the five-time defending champion, Roger Federer.
Federer is 6-0 against del Potro. However, it was the Swiss who was down 2 sets to 1 and had to win the last two sets to get the win in their last meeting. These two players last met in the semi-finals of this year's French Open, with Federer winning in five sets, 3-6 7-6(2) 2-6 6-1 6-4, en route to his first ever French Open title.

IT'S ON! Former number one pound-for-pound boxer in the world, "Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather Jr., is set to return into the ring and face Mexico's numero uno, Juan Manuel Marquez, on September 19, 2009 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Mayweather (39-0-0, 25 KOs), whose last fight was way back in December 8, 2007 when he knocked out the then-undefeated Ricky Hatton, still has yet to lose a fight and vows to destroy Marquez and reclaim his pound-for-pound throne.
"When I get back into the ring, I plan to show my fans what they've been missing these past 18 months. I will destroy Marquez and reclaim my rightful place as boxing's pound-for-pound king all in one night," according to Mayweather.
Marquez (50-4-1, 37 KOs), a five-time world champion in three different divisions, is now considered as the best boxer in Mexico. Marquez is focused on carving his name as one of boxing's true legends by being the first man to ever beat the undefeated Mayweather.
"I am glad Mayweather has been cleared to fight and we can get down to business," Marquez said. "My win will be for all the people and entire country of Mexico. I am sure of victory."
